Phantom of International Institutions: Economic Liberalization in East and SoutheastAsia
Dr. Tomoko Takahashi is a tenured Lecturer (equivalent to a senior assistant professor) at the University of Tokyo. She received her Ph.D., M.A. and LL.B. at the University of Tokyo, and another M.A. (with Honors) at the University of Chicago. She has been a Visiting Researcher at WZB Berlin Social Science Center, and an Assistant Professor at Kyoto University. Her research interests center on international institutions, with an emphasis on East and Southeast Asia. Her projects examine the dynamics of powers,
norms and institutional designs, using statistical analysis, multilingual archives, and interviews. Her latest publications appear in Global Studies Quarterly and International Interactions. At Harvard, her research will focus on rising powers’ economic ties and their relationship to economic liberalization, encompassing both successful and unrealized proposals for international organizations.
