Professor Nagase has published extensively on work and family in Japan, East Asia, and the developed economies. Her empirical research has examined wage structure and work choice, labor market regulations and social security, taxation, public pension system, long-term care insurance, marital behavior and the timing of childbirth, and childcare leave. Her articles have appeared in Japanese Economic Journal, Journal of Population Problem, Econometric Review, Quarterly Journal of Social Policy, and other scholarly journals and edited volumes. Her books include Nobuko Nagase and Eiko Shinotsuka eds. (2008), Shoshika to Ekonomi: Paneru Chosa de Egaku Higashi Ajia [Declining Fertility and Economy: East Asia using Panel Survey] (Tokyo: Sakuhinsha). During 2013-15, she is conducting a comparative study of female labor in Japan and the US, supported by the Abe Fellowship program.
