**Philip Knight Chair in Japan Studies and Senior Fellow, Brookings Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies, and Associate Professor, School of International Service, American University**

Professor Solis’s research interests cover comparative and international political economy, comparative studies of regional integration, trade policy, and Japanese politics and foreign economic policy. She has authored or co-edited several books: *Banking on Multinationals: Public Credit and the Export of Japanese Sunset Industries* (Stanford University Press, 2004), *Cross-Regional Trade Agreements: Understanding Fragmented Regionalism in East Asia* (Springer, 2008), and *Competitive Regionalism: Explaining the Diffusion and Implications of FTAs in the Pacific Rim* (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2009). Dr. Solis has published articles in journals such as *International Studies Quarterly*, *Review of International Political Economy*, *The World Economy*, *Pacific Affairs*, *Business and Politics*, *Journal of East Asian Studies*, and *Asian Economic Policy Review*. She was the recipient of the Abe Fellowship (2005-06) and was post-doctoral fellow of the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, Harvard University (2000-01).
