Professor Nye is a distinguished scholar of U.S. foreign policy, leadership, and power in international politics. His recent books include Presidential Leadership and the Creation of the American Era (2013), The Future of Power (2010), The Powers to Lead (2008), Understanding International Conflicts (7th edition, 2008), The Power Game: A Washington Novel (2004), Soft Power (2004), The Paradox of American Power (2002), and Power and Interdependence (3rd edition, 2000). His articles have been featured in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, National Interest, Washington Quarterly, Economist, New York Times, and in other journals and edited volumes. Professor Nye has served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council, and Deputy Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology. Professor Nye has received the Intelligence Community Distinguished Service Medal, Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Charles E. Merriam Award from the American Political Science Association, and the Foreign Policy Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Studies Association.
